Introducing Ferla Mini Bike v2: Always Room for Improvement

There is always room for improvement. This is a phrase that many people know and have been driven by. It is a phrase that promotes integrity, passion, and hard work. It is not trying to say that you should never be satisfied but rather do not let your satisfaction blind you from seeing what could be.

Here at Ferla Bikes we do everything we can to ensure that the products we sell are not only loved by us but by our customers. We are proud of every single one of the products we make and cherish the customer input that made them possible. Nevertheless, we understand that nothing is ever perfect and that there is always room for improvement. This phrase holds a lot of meaning as of recent here at Ferla Bikes. Recently we launched the first version of the Ferla Mini Bike. A highly anticipated product that we were sure would make us and our customers proud. However, when it was released there were certain things we knew we needed to change. Thus began the road to the new and improved Ferla Mini Bike: Mini Bike v2.

The Cause of Change

Our customers and ourselves included were ecstatic about the up and coming Ferla Mini Bike. After months of input, design, and production the idea of a compact and functional bike was finally a reality. Life at Ferla Bikes was crazy but it was all going to be worth it when our customers finally received their impeccable Ferla Mini Bikes. We imagined a day of smiles, happiness, and positivity when the shipments finally arrived to our customers.

However, the quality of the mini bikes was not entirely what was expected. The first version of the bike had some troubles and our customers had some concern with its quality. At Ferla Bikes we strive to make our bikes and carts as perfect as possible so that you can have something extraordi-nary to build your business with. We had to do something. This version was still not good enough in our eyes and we wanted to improve upon the model.

Making the Ferla Mini Bike Better than the Best

The customers who received the first version of the Ferla Mini Bike were kind enough to share their input with us on how we could improve upon the model. After speaking with them personally and getting a better understanding of what features they were not completely satisfied with, it was time to start improving.

We put our heads together to create a better mini bike. One that would be unlike anything our cus-tomers have seen from us or anywhere else. We turned to a new manufacturer and we ensured that the materials being used to make our bikes were impeccable.

The main improved features of the Mini Bike v2 are:

  • Improved wooden box
  • Thicker wooden panels
  • Scratch resistant paint
  • Cut-Corners to make opening the top easier
  • Beautiful Matte Finish

There are other improvements with the quality of the nuts and bolts, the frame, and the side table. This new Ferla Mini Bike is truly something we are proud of and we know that it is only going to keep improving.

We just got the new shipment of Ferla Mini Bike v2 in and are sending them out now! We hope our customers see the the effort we put into listening to their input and making things right. We promise to never stop listening and to never stop improving.

The Most Advanced Coffee Bike in the World: Ferla X

The Most Advanced Coffee Bike in the World: Ferla X

Introducing the Out of this World Ferla X

Have you ever wanted to experience one of the greatest products on the planet? To see it, touch it, use it? Well soon you can do all of that and more with the Ferla X. The Ferla X is unlike any coffee bike this planet has ever seen. It is so much more advanced than it’s other coffee predecessors and competitors that it almost seems extraterrestrial. Ferla X has been optimized for the efficiency of its operator. With a sink, extensive storage space, and the option to add a battery powered freezer, the Ferla X has features unlike anything else. Of course, no one can make the planet’s best coffee bike all on their own. The out of this world idea came from you, our clients.

Ferla X coffee bike

Ferla X’s Earthly Beginnings

Before I can elaborate more on what makes this coffee bike unlike any other I have to journey back to the beginning. Before there was the Ferla X there was the Ferla 2. It was everything you could want in a coffee bike. It had a sink, storage, electricity, and it’s design was sleek and unique. People of Earth were using it to make their small businesses grow; with our Ferla 2 the universe was the limit!

But there was just one problem our clients felt like there was something missing. Their coffee bike spaceship was about to reach the edge of the universe; the limit was growing near. The limit was the absence of a temperature controlled freezer. Many of our clients needed a place to put their chilled ingredients and produce. They needed a space for their milk, ice, cream you name it!

They asked us if there was a freezer on the market that could fit inside the compartment box but we had no luck finding one. Our clients were making their needs and voices heard and we wanted to deliver. At first it seemed impossible to create a bike that had both a sink and freezer. A hybrid. A literal extraterrestrial. But here at Ferla Bikes we don’t take NO for an answer and we make sure our clients have everything they could possibly need to take over the universe with their businesses. We put our heads together and we created the perfect temperature controlled freezer to install into our Ferla bikes.

Ferla X coffee bike

Birth of an Extraterrestrial

Thus, the creation of the Ferla X was underway! We created a freezer, now we needed a bike that would make our clients proud, happy, and successful to go along with it. We didn’t want to just put the freezer onto the Ferla 2. We wanted to create something that would go to infinity and beyond. Why stop at just the freezer? The Ferla X has features that no other coffee bike can offer.

  • Ferla X Coffee Bike
  • Ferla X Coffee Bike
  • Ferla X Coffee Bike

Learn more about these features and Ferla X’s release by signing up for the mailing list!

Efficiency: We placed the sink, cash register, and freezer right next to one another and facing the vendor’s direction so that you can be as efficient as possible. The need to go back and forth between the sides of the bike is no longer! Add an espresso shot, grab ice from the freezer, and make change at an inhuman speed.

Durability: Our thicker plywood frame helps make Ferla X the most durable vending bike for sale in the world. The new frame is built to support the weight of your entire mobile restaurant set-up. Plus, we didn’t forget to add our waterproof varnish to the finish. Ferla X is also equipped with new wheels: heavier duty tires and a larger rim to help support the large frame. Never worry about your bike rolling away!

Space: Ferla X comes with a new & improved rear storage unit: a cubic shape increases your options for storage capability, and the flat top is perfect for displaying condiments when you are stationary. Lock up your valuable goods with our new & improved storage lock for the front storage unit.

Advanced Plumbing: A foldable faucet, removable basin, and the option to add hot water heating makes our Ferla X one of the most competitive sink-equipped vending bikes on the market.

Power: The Ferla X is even more powerful than the Ferla 2 with the all new powerful 750W Motor! Engineered to take on the weight of all the equipment you need to be successful! This new motor won’t let anything bring you down.

Sustainable Energy: The flexible solar panel roof will allow you to run your freezer for up to 15 hours all while using environmentally friendly and sustainable energy. Who knew the sun could keep things chilled!

The Ferla X also has some of the Ferla 2’s classic features like the extendable side table, display ledge, and the option to add pedal assist to make moving your bike easy so you can spread your business all over the planet!

    Landing Soon

The Ferla X is so advanced that at first glance you might confuse it for a coffee spaceship and it is landing soon! We are so excited to get this out of the world product to you. We could not have created this without the ideas of our clients and we hope it’s everything you asked for and more! Our mission here at Ferla is to break through the limits of what people think is possible. At first the thought of the Ferla X seemed like a distant dream but with handwork, passion, and dedication we have created a bike that will help you and your business make the universe the limit.

    The Unexpected Isn’t Always CARTastrophic

Often times people fear the unexpected. People fear it because they always assume the unexpected is something unstoppable. That notion is correct, there is no avoiding the unexpected. Nevertheless, the unexpected and unstoppable does not always lead to the unwanted. It’s time to stop giving the unexpected a bad wrap and realize that it holds so many wonderful opportunities. Recently here at Ferla Bikes, the unexpected has been nothing but splendid. This is because it gave us an opportunity to expand ourselves and start looking into the future with our brand new Ferla coffee and ice cream carts.

    The Start

We cherish open-mindedness, collaboration, and creativity at Ferla not only within our team but within our customer community as well.

Over the past few years a few customers have given us the idea to possibly provide coffee cart and ice cream cart models without the bike attached. They told us that they had trouble finding a place to store their Ferla bikes and some of them mentioned they did not even need the bike attached. For some of our customers a simple, functional, and aesthetically pleasing cart was all they needed.

In order to make those customers feel heard and improve upon our products, we got down to business and started creating the first ever set of Ferla coffee and ice cream carts. We wanted to make sure that the carts were different from anything else on the market. We created carts that had the same features, design, and feeling you love all while making them unlike anything we have ever offered before! Our Ferla Grande cart is our largest model yet; giving you all the space you need to sell your products. Oppositely, the Ferla Mini cart is just the right size to spread positivity and make your business dreams come true!

    The Response

Since this idea came from only a few of our customers we were not expecting a very high demand. We are in fact Ferla BIKES and we felt as though the majority of our existing and future customers would still prefer our bike models over our cart models. Goodness were we wrong about that! People are falling in love and purchasing our carts more than we ever expected! It is such an incredible feeling to see an idea, that came from the voices of the community, not only come to life, but to be cherished by others. The fact that this idea stemmed from the minds and opinions of our customers makes these models all the more special. The cart belongs not only to the Ferla business team but to you, our loyal, creative, and passionate Ferla community.

Along with our unexpected demand, an unexpected business joined the Ferla community. What business you ask? None other than Tiffany’s! Tiffany & Co. reached out to us wanting a custom ordered Ferla Mini Cart to use for a pop-up in Beverly Hills which was to promote their restaurant The Blue Box Cafe.

    Ferla Mini Cart

We custom colored the bikes to be the iconic Tiffany’s blue and to be honest, I’m a little jealous they have this color copyrighted because it is absolutely stunning! The pop-up shop was a blue wonderland. Blue coffee carts, cups, pastries, clothes, you name it! Above you can see our Ferla Mini in action. Someone is about to munch on a delicious treat and we are overjoyed it was stored in our cart!

    Ferla Mini Cart

It was exciting to go through social media and see all the lovely people take photos in front of our cart. Above you can also see a passionate Tiffany’s vendor! Our mission to make it aesthetically pleasing and beautiful was most definitely accomplished.

    Harry Banana

GET A QUOTE FOR YOUR CUSTOMIZED BIKE OR CART TODAY

Our one-of-a-kind colors have also given small entrepreneurs a creative and fun way to help promote and kick start their business. The Harry Banana purchased one of our Ferla Ice Cream bikes and we were happy to add his bright and quirky logo to the cart and make it just the right shade of banana yellow! Not only does Harry make healthy, vegan, and delicious treats but he also rocks those banana overalls! They’re quite aPEELing if you ask me!

    The Ferla Cart Future

Currently we offer two types of carts: our Ferla Mini and Ferla Grande carts. They will be fully restocked this mid-June! We are not stopping here! The Ferla future is filled with innovative carts that will feed a range of needs and bring possibilities to a wider ranger of dreamers. We are planning to create a grill cart, cold brew cart, merchandise cart, and more! We are also planning to increase the size of the freezer so that you can fit more chilly delights into your cart and bring more smiles to your customers.

When I look back at this journey I can’t help but marvel at how the most beautiful thing and possibly the most helpful thing about life is that it is unexpected. People always say you find love when you least expect it and boy oh boy did we find not only love but happiness in our carts! Ferla Bikes was founded on the belief that anything is possible no matter how big or how small your business is. Being able to contribute to Harry’s dream means the world to us. Helping Tiffany’s with their pop-up and being a part of Harry’s dream would never have happened without the unexpectedly amazing feedback we received from you. Next time the unexpected comes your way don’t be afraid, be happy because if its about to bring you anything like it brought us you’re in for an amazing coffee cart ride.

5 Tips To Consider When Starting An Eco-Friendly Restaurant

5 Tips To Consider When Starting An Eco-Friendly Restaurant

    Starting An Eco-Friendly Restaurant

As an aspiring environmentally-friendly restaurant owner, you already know that more and more consumers are prioritizing a restaurant’s sustainability practices before choosing to give them their business. The market of environmentally-conscious shoppers grows by the day, and more and more restaurants are working to earn their loyalty, which means you’ll need to outdo your competition.

While your restaurant may cater to a specific market, such as vegans or diners who value locally-sourced products, there are several general practices that you can implement to make sure your restaurant is in the green. Check out our top five favorite tips below:

    1. Reduce & Cut Away Food Waste

This goes without saying, but there are several ways that you can cut back on your restaurants waste. One of the biggest problems in the restaurant industry is obviously food waste. The FIFO (first in, first out) method, which is a well-known inventory control method, allows the oldest inventory, or food products in this case, to be used first.

Another option is offering specials based on your current inventory. The sweetness of an over-ripened banana is perfect for banana bread, and a mature apple is great for applesauce. If you still fail to use all of your older inventory, then don’t hesitate to donate to your local food bank right away – and if that isn’t an option, then you can always learn to compost!

    1. Save Energy

You’re probably used to seeing your restaurant’s electricity bill always on the higher side. Besides being another costly expense (ugh!) for your business, it’s also an obvious waste of resources to use so much electricity. When designing your kitchen, be sure to separate heating and cooling equipment, to be sure that they both run with efficiency. Train your employees on the importance of cleaning equipment, and turn off appliances that aren’t being used. Make sure to invest in led lighting, utilize mood-lighting in your dining area, and make use of natural light from windows and skylights when possible.

    Save Energy

Using LED vintage-style lightbulbs like these ones look pretty and save energy. A win for your restaurant!

    1. Consider Going Mobile

You may think of a mobile restaurant using even more gas than a brick and mortar location – after all, food trucks run on gas, right? However, there’s plenty of alternatives to a food truck when it comes to taking your restaurant on the road. A food trailer could be towed behind your electric or hybrid car, and a mobile kiosk or food cart are great alternatives for simple, smaller sized operations. Having a fully mobile operation forces you to get creative with your resources, and it allows you to travel to your customers – rather than the other way around.

If you really want a creative solution, consider using a vending bike for your mobile operation. Combining compactedness with ease-of-mobility, a food vending bike is the perfect solution for restaurant owners who want the best of both worlds. Even if you do stick with a brick and mortar location, you can still use vending bikes as a way to deliver to your customers, whether you sell organic pizza, baked goods, or even fresh produce from your market. Ferla Bikes sells a variety of vending & delivery bikes that would work perfectly for your business model.

    Consider Going Mobile

A vending bike like this one ensures that your business is efficient, sustainable, and fun, all in one.

    1. Source Your Ingredients Locally

Support your community and shop local! We’ve all heard #ShopSmall and #ShopLocal before, but how many of us actually implement the concepts into our daily business practices? Too often, we sacrifice the opportunity to make our businesses more green for our bottom line. However, there’s a whole market of diners who would happily pay more for locally sourced products!

The good news is, even if you can’t buy everything local, you can research what types of produce is commonly grown in your geographic region and start there. If you’re up for a creative project, you can even grow your own produce! Growing your produce in-house provides an engaging way for customers to see where their food is coming from, and may even cut your costs if done right. If you go on the mobile business route, you can invest in a mini-greenhouse, such as this one, for your growing purposes!

    Source Your Ingredients Locally

    1. Share Your Cause With Your Community

Expand your sustainability practices beyond your restaurant’s borders, and reach out to help your community! Teach a sustainable cooking class, where you teach your fans how they can concoct their own environmentally-conscious dishes at home. Cater at your local farmers market, and share a conversation with your customers to generate awareness of a cause close to your heart. Take a week or so each year to donate a percentage of your profit to a local charity.

Sustainability is not just about creating a more healthy environment, but also about creating more healthy people – and a more healthy community. Engage with your community, and they’ll engage back!

Take a look below to see just three ways that our Ferla 2 coffee bike has been used for catering:

    1. Bar Cart for a Backyard Wedding

This Ferla 2 was used by a mobile bar service for an event in southern California. With a simple removal of the canopy, some branding customization, and repurposing some of our equipment (we love how they used our BPA-free acrylic display case as an ice chest!), they were able to create a beautiful and professional-looking catering cart for serving cocktails.

Bar Cart for a Backyard Wedding

A cart like this one is perfect for weddings, backyard get-togethers, or your next corporate event in Los Angeles!

    1. Coffee Cart for a Corporate Event

Another way that our Ferla 2 has been used was as a coffee cart for BMW’s Group Dialogues Event. Several students and innovative thinkers discussed ways to improve mobile transportation by using sustainable solutions. Ferla 2 was displayed as a possible solution to fix urban mobility in Los Angeles, but it also served as a great coffee catering cart for the event!

Coffee Cart for a Corporate Event

    1. Fun-Design Coffee Cart

Ferla 2 was recently featured at an influencer event in Los Angeles. Bluestone Lane used the bike as a coffee cart for the event, and it was a huge hit.

The bike was fully decked out in beautiful floral additions, and complete with Bluestone Lane’s logo clear to see on the front of the bike. What a great addition to an awesome event!

Ferla x Lululemon: Ghost Races and Promo Bikes!

At Ferla Bikes, we’re fortunate to work with several different companies every year who reach out to us, seeking a unique way to promote their product while hosting fun experiential marketing events for their most loyal customers.

Most recently, we’ve worked with Lululemon Chicago and Lululemon New York. We helped them by supplying vending bikes for the Ghost Race, an 8km course which runners participate in to earn a badge with benefits. Check out our cool Lululemon Ghost Race bike below!

Our Ferla Vendor helped Lululemon with promoting their brand and hosting a great race. This brand ambassador handed out hats and other accessories as a celebratory gift to those who finished the course.

The race starts and ends here. Runners were rewarded with several other popup stop-and-shops along the way, full of promotional gear and water to help cool down.

All in all, the event was fun, successful, and made everyone who participated feel like a valued member of the Lululemon community. That is what successful experiential marketing is all about!

How to Make and Sell Your Own Cold Brew Coffee!

    cold brew coffee

How to Make and Sell Your Own Cold Brew Coffee!

Utilizing modern resources and tapping into local trends, taking a business concept from conception to fruition is as realistic as ever. To help demonstrate this point, we’re going to look at how anyone — from baristas, to entrepreneurial novices — can start a cold brew coffee business from the ground up.

Taking advantage of the vast heaps of education available on the internet, you or anyone could begin by educating themselves on the product itself — cold brew. Once familiar with how it’s produced and what it is, you can then seek out insights into what makes it so popular.

    cold brew coffee

Following the education portion of the journey, you’ll be ready to make your own cold brew coffee, strategize how to sell it, and then actualize a business. For a small reasonable investment, you can be up and running in no time, and this post will demonstrate how. To begin with, however, let’s look at the product.

    What Is Cold Brew Coffee?

One of our favorite definitions of this super popular, iced caffeine comes from Chameleon Cold Brew. It reads,

“Cold brew refers to the process of preparing the coffee, not the temperature of the final product. Beans are ground, then soaked in room-temperature water for an extended period of time, usually 12 hours or more.”

This is obviously different than the common brewing method of coffee, which consists of pouring hot water over ground beans. Iced coffee, cold brew’s predecessor as the trendy summertime twist on coffee, is regular-brewed hot coffee then cooled and served over ice. The cold brew process makes for a bolder and stronger beverage, and it’s been a hit at cafes around the world for years and years.

Why Is Cold Brew So Popular?

There’s a fantastic piece that was published a few years ago in the New York Times, when the cold brew craze was just a few seasons old.

In the piece, the writer sums up the drink’s steep rise by explaining,

“Cold brew was still a relatively niche market until 2015, when Starbucks introduced the drink in a number of stores; it is now (2017) available at every one of its more than 13,000 locations in the United States, 800 of which also offer nitro. It’s a coffee with both mass-market appeal and indie credibility. Today, you can find cold brew at a coffee shop where everything is meticulously crafted by hand, and at Dunkin’ Donuts. You can find draught, canned, and bottled cold brew coffee today as well.”

Making Your Own Cold Brew Coffee

Anyone looking to start a cold brew business will want to familiarize themselves with the process of making it first. We recommend beginning with an approach similar to that depicted in this July, 2020 NPR piece, An Easy Cold Brew Recipe You Can Make At Home, as it’s self-described as a “baseline guide.”

    cold brew coffee

Cold Brew Coffee Set By Kilner, $34.

The methodology described there, and one that can be adjusted and manipulated to create infinite cold brew recipes consists of the following:

Step One: Grind up a single cup of coffee, and put it in a pitcher or container.

Step Two: Add (X) cups of coffee, stir, cover, and leave it at room temperature, or in the refrigerator for six hours.

The NPR writer recommended 4 cups of water to one cup of coffee, and describes it as a stronger brew. Less water for even stronger, and more water for milder. It’s up to every business owner to determine details like the strength of their cold brew.

Step Three: Filter the beans out two or three times, and then run the liquid through a paper filter.

Step Four: Refrigerate, or pour over ice, and drink up!

After some trial and error with this general approach, aspiring baristas and mobile cold brew entrepreneurs can begin experimenting with different water-coffee ratios. They can begin searching for the perfect bean to grind for their business, and exploring variations with their own concepts. For anyone ever lacking inspiration, there are endless general and specialty cold brew recipes online to try out, and riff off.

How To Start Your Own Cold Brew Coffee Business

When you have a cold brew product that you believe in, it’s time to start planning how to start your own cold brew coffee business. To break it down with a little more detail, we broke down these five easy steps to help ambitious entrepreneurs get their iced-java ventures off the ground.

    Build A Business Plan

Like starting any business, when starting, you need to look at universal metrics such as your startup money, startup costs, operating costs, and projected revenue. If you can find a realistic way to set yourself up for profits, then you’re good to roll.

In calculating costs, consider what you can afford in terms of the beans you want to source, how large the business will be, and what your distribution methods will be. Is this cold brew business meant to be in an expensive cold brew coffee shop — i.e. brick and mortar? Or, perhaps it could be a mobile concept — such as those executed with Ferla Coffee Bikes.

    Cold Brew Bike

Create A Marketing Plan & Launch Strategy

Regardless of your startup capital and how you see your own coffee brand being launched, your marketing plan and launch strategy should maximize resources to generate attention.

Every business needs to establish accessible and attractive content on their website and social media platforms. It’s also important to consider mobile promotions and marketing opportunities.

Startups who utilize grassroots tools like a cold brew coffee bike can have it customized to work as a traveling advertisement. In many cases, this moving promotion also serves as a functioning cafe with far less overhead than a storefront.

    Put Your Plans Into Action

When the numbers are calculated, and the strategies are in place, then the long and arduous process of actualizing it all begins. Building websites, social media followings, shopping for venues and mobile cafe options, hiring people, and procuring the cups, payment systems, and various other materials needed takes time.

Selling Your Own Cold Brew Coffee, & Building A Brand

Starting up any business takes time and patience. Selling cold brew coffee, and really anything, takes daily commitments online and in the physical world. For those who opted to go with the mobile-cafe route to upstart their cold brew dreams, we recommend riding as much as possible.

Ferla Coffee Bikes & Carts, for example, are fully customizable with full-wrap color and logo painting, and signage services. So, theoretically, the more an upstart rides their branded coffee bike around their town, the more eyes will see it, and the more people will eventually try the coffee.

How Much You Can Earn Selling Cold Brew Coffee

According to this piece from Coffee Detective, an average pound of quality beans will run you around $13. According to LEAFtv, a cup of coffee beans should equal about 3 ounces. That means twelve cups per bag, the only extra costs being water and filters. Selling cold brews at a competitive $4 per cup, means one could earn upwards of $48 per bag, a $45 profit minus filter and water costs.

That profit can also dwindle with common cafe and cold brew costs such as rent, electricity, and insurance. Those that are dependent on a mobile option like a Ferla Coffee Bike or Cart can get out of the woods fast.

Startup venue costs max out at around $7,000 with bikes and carts available as low as a few thousand dollars. These expenses end there, with no ongoing rents, insurances, and fees. For higher mobility, they can opt for electric pedal assist options with green rear hub motors, offering an emissions-free mode of transport without gas costs.

Whether on a bike, with a cart, or in a store — once the startup costs are covered, the profits can be plentiful.
